Event by Adelaide Refugee Supporters
Saturday, 10 April 2021 from 14:30 -15:30
Around 200 people seeking safety were brought to Australia under the now-defunct Medevac laws. They were brought here to receive essential medical treatment. Many have been held in hotel prisons for over 12 months while some have been held in detention centres around Australia. Very few of them have received adequate medical treatment.
There are 10 men held at Adelaide Immigration Transit Accommodation in Kilburn, Adelaide for over 12 months. With their time on Manus or Nauru, they have been detained for eight years. This rally requests the release of the 10 Adelaide men on permanent visas with immediate access to Centrelink and Medicare. We are #StandingForHumanity to #FreeTheAdelaide10 and request an #Amnesty4Adelaide10.
They are not criminals; it is perfectly legal to seek asylum. Australians believe in decency and respect whereas the government has gone against the values we hold dear. No one should be denied basic human rights such as medical treatment.
We are meeting at Victoria Square from 2.30 PM -3.30 PM, Saturday 10 April. Please bring some placards and signs.
As with all the events Adelaide Refugee Supporters organise, this event is organised collaboratively with the men themselves and as much as is possible we encourage them to lead.
