Movin' Melvin Brown

The team at The Old Barn Sedan are extremely excited, privileged and happy to announce that we will have the pleasure this Sunday of the company of international superstar Movin' Melvin Brown. What a treat. He is in Adelaide at the moment with his fringe show and is very keen to come along to the gem that we like to call The Old Barn.

Below is an excerpt of his current fringe show. “World class entertainer Movin' Melvin Brown is back from his five-star, multi-awarded musical 'A Man A Magic A Music' for the Australian premiere of his dazzling journey through the life of The King of Soul music: Sam Cooke. Melvin tells Cooke's amazing story through song, tap-dance, stories & comedy. Only two shows!

Sam Cooke was the first crossover artist to top both the Soul and Pop music charts with songs like You Send Me, A Change Is Gonna Come,Chain Gang, Wonderful World, Twistin' the Night Away... Alongside Melvin's tunes, you'll be clapping & dancing.”

His career spans over 5 decades. So please, take advantage of this great opportunity, do yourselves a favour and come along this Sunday to see and hear Movin'Movin' Melvin Brown: SWEET SOUL MUSIC (The Sam Cooke Story) perform a lunch time sneak peak of his amazing Adelaide fringe performance.

Some of us here at The Old Barn have had the privilege of meeting and seeing him perform the last time that he was here in Adelaide. We personally highly recommend his shows. You won’t be disappointed.

To secure a table booking this Sunday at the barn, please contact Vicki asap on 0418841164

If you can only make one visit to the Old Barn this year then consider making it this Sunday.

Along with Movin Melvin, we also have some top class bands and musicians performing.

Free Entry.

Three Well Known Australians

Three Well Known Australians

Created in 1982 by Sydney artist Martin Shaw, 'Three Well-Known Australians' has travelled to galleries, libraries and public halls around Australia since 1983, inviting viewers across the nation to guess the identity of the three abstract figures it depicts.

Shaw assures audiences he didn’t merely paint these figures at random. “I did have three Australians or Australian themes in mind” he says, but he won’t disclose these details. The only figure in the painting with a definite identity is a small black and white dog in the bottom right-hand corner. This is Pea, Shaw’s much-loved pet, who died in 1991.

The current exhibition includes more than 40 years of guesses from people who have visited the work, these are catalogued into yearbooks which provide insight to this rolling "historical social commentary" of Australia.  Of course, over time, who the community feels these figures represent will change as the figure heads, influencers and popular culture within our community changes and evolves.

Many well-known Australians have participated in this project and a selection of the 240 letters Shaw has received from notable community members are also on display, including recent guesses from Prime Minister Albanese and the Premier of South Australia.

This enigmatic artwork will be on display at Mount Pleasant Library until 24 December 2024.  We encourage you to visit and become part of this perpetually touring project.
