Birdwood Farm Day

Birdwood Farm Day

Farm Day is excited to partner with the National Motor Museum again in 2024 and as always, promises to have something for to suit every member of the family!

There will be all the usual crowd favourites - freshly baked damper and Devonshire tea, petting zoos, and a host of animal exhibits.

Milking cows, sheep shearing and working dog demonstrations along with log chopping, blacksmithing, restored engines plenty of other attractions to showcase the farming lifestyle and how farming has evolved over time.

Camel rides, bouncy castles, face painting and other amusement rides will be sure to put smiles on everyone’s faces.

As Farm Day is the sole fundraiser for Birdwood Primary School, the school’s representation must not be overlooked. The school will host a variety of retail stalls including our ever-popular Gardening, Sweet Treats and Port and Wine stalls. The students themselves are working hard on creating their own retail spaces in each year level too.

This really is a group effort with the whole school community being involved on some level, putting our best offerings forward for the public to enjoy!

As always, plenty of hot coffee and food choices to keep you full so you can stay and play the whole day long.

Children can use their imaginations while they 'build a city' with foam blocks or enjoy some quiet time colouring in, or challenge each other to giant board games like chess, Connect 4 and Jenga in our Kids Zone.

The Main Stage and Arena areas will host some great entertainers with live music, whip cracking and performances by our very own students.

Not sure how you will see it all? Purchase a Farm Day Trail Bag from the Info Stall by the entrance and it will lead you through the event, collecting as you go, ensuring no corner is left undiscovered.

Have we mentioned that each ticket also provides FREE access to the National Motor Museum?

Tickets on sale February 18th, don’t miss out!

All tickets must be pre-purchased via Try Booking.

She is generous with her knowledge as a horticulturist gleaned from over 35 years of hands-on gardening experience. No dogs…

Sherlock

Sherlock is our wonderful guard dog, flock protector, friend and family pet. He is a breed called a Maremma, bred to protect stock from predators and to be intensely loyal to, and protective of, his family.

Sherlock is true to his breeding and we ask that visitors do not bring other dogs to our property. Visiting dogs will unnecessarily cause Sherlock stress as he feels the need to protect his flock and family from them.

Your support is much appreciated.

Partnering with local charities

Sophie partners with local community groups and charities to organise the parking. In the past few years, Local Rotary Clubs have managed visitor parking to raise money for their chosen charities including “Operation Flinders’.

What happened in previous open gardens?

Open gardens at Sophie’s Patch are more than just demonstrating sustainable gardening practices that I am always preaching, they are more like a fair or community event focused on community education.  Every open garden is different at Sophie’s Patch as the garden grows, different speakers and groups join, amazing sculptures are built and the garden evolves.

Palmer Sculpture Biennial

Palmer Sculpture Biennial

The tenth Palmer Sculpture Biennial introduces works by sculptors from around Australia and overseas. Visitors engage with a unique Australian skyscape, never ending horizons and a pristine landscape with rocky outcrops and regenerating flora and fauna. A huge contrast to the white walls of a gallery.

The sculptors choose how their works interact with the natural setting, and the exhibition aims to present a broad range of contemporary art of quality, innovation and artistic insight. Visitors stroll across the four hundred acres, slowly viewing the sculptures and the environment, stopping to enjoy conversations, picnic lunches and the opening day music.

Important information:
This event continues on weekends 11am to 5.30pm and Wednesdays 2pm to 5.30pm until April 10th.

Presented by:
Greg Johns

Greg Johns is a South Australian sculptor whos works are well known in South Australia and overseas. Greg founded the Palmer Sculpture Landscape in 2001 as a venue for the display of contemporary sculpture in an awe inspiring Australian environment which is currently undergoing ecological restoration. The Palmer Sculpture Biennial has now become a world class event, unique in its emphasis on the counterpoint between art and place.

Palmer Sculpture Landscape at Palmer Landscape

Davenport Rd, Palmer, SA, 5237

The Palmer Landscape is 3.5 km from Palmer on the Davenport Road which starts opposite the Palmer Hotel on the way to Mannum, - a pleasant country drive, - about 76 kms from Adelaide.

Adelaide Festival of Climate Action
Oct
15
2:00 pm14:00

Adelaide Festival of Climate Action

The scale and pace of change to our climate has almost no precedent.

The last time CO2 was this high in our atmosphere was 2 million years ago when rich forests covered the Antarctic.

Immediate, deep and sustained change is needed.

To do this, we need everyone: old and young, people of faith, parents, business leaders, politicians, artists, you.

The latest report from the world’s leading climate scientists is clear: there is still hope.

There is still a narrow path to avoid a climate catastrophe.

But only if we act fast.

From now on every fraction of a degree matters

Every tonne of carbon matters
Every day matters
Every choice matters

The decisions we take and the actions we make today will resonate for centuries. The next few years will be the most consequential in human history.

What we do with it is up to each of us.

In the lead up to the COP 26 Climate Conference in Glasgow, come along to learn what you can do, be inspired and connect with others who want to make a difference.

We choose to come together because we can – on behalf of all those in isolation throughout the country and the world.

And we choose to come together because we must.

~~~~~~~
Join us for a family-focused weekend in Adelaide which will provide space to get people talking, connecting, and learning about this difficult problem in a supportive atmosphere while exploring actions we can take together.
Our vision is for an energising and hands-on festival that it will be inspiring and provide a chance to gather and make new friends and allies.
~~~~~~~
