Open Doors - CANCELLED

Come and visit some places you will only be able to see during this event.

The History Trust of SA has encouraged owners of historic places to open their doors to give the public a glimpse into South Australia’s past.

Open in Mount Pleasant this year will be Melrose House. Situated at the corner of Melrose Street and Saleyard Road, this building was completed in 1869, as the bank of South Australia. It continued as a bank, then was in private hands before decades as a stock and station agency - first with Bagot, Shakes and Lewis, and then Elder Smith Goldsborough Mort, and finally finishing it’s business life as Elders Real Estate.

It is now in private hands and currently undergoing restoration, so that it will look largely like it did when first built.

Bookings are essential.

During the History Festival, the Mt Pleasant Soldiers’ Memorial Hall will also be open for viewing every Thursday from 10 until 4.
